In addition to the work performed by Best Care Fumigation NorCal, it is your responsibility to help prepare your home for the fumigation. Taking the following steps prior to fumigation helps ensure its success, resulting in the elimination of dry wood termites and/or beetles.
Water the soil up to 18 inches from the outer walls of your home to protect plants and shrubs.
Cut back foliage, shrubbery, and landscaping at least 12 inches from the structure to allow room for the tarps.
Remember to make arrangements for overnight accommodations for you and your pets, as your home will be under fumigation for a minimum of 72 hours.
Please keep in mind the fumigation may need to be rescheduled if the weather is uncooperative. High winds may hinder a fumigation and will cause danger to the fumigators.
Remove all plants from your structure(s), including those on outdoor patios.
Evacuate all people and pets from the structure.
Remove the plastic or rubber covers from any mattresses.
Remove or double-bag any food or medicine in special Nylofume bags that we provide. You do not need to bag or remove items in glass or metal bottles if the original manufacturer’s airtight seal is intact.
Seal the Nylofume bags one at a time by twisting the tops, folding them down, and sealing with tape, twist ties, string, or rubber bands. DO NOT TIE BAGS IN A KNOT.
Double-bag cold and frozen food and leave them in the refrigerator or freezer. TIP: Remove shelves from the refrigerator and freezer to make it easier to stack Nylofume bags inside.
Be sure to double-bag anything that will be ingested (medicine, spices, etc.).
It is not necessary to wash dishes, linens, clothing, or similar items after fumigation, as Vikane is a gas that completely dissipates from the structure. However, we understand if you prefer to wash these items for peace of mind—just know it is not required.
Remember, once your fumigation is complete, all dry wood termites in your structure will have been eliminated.
If you are still unsure about how to do something or need help determining if an item needs to be bagged, etc., do not hesitate to give us a call or send us an email.
